Nightlife Recommendations for Stagg Bowl Week

UW-Whitewater fans have had eight Stagg Bowl's to become familiar with the Roanoke/Salem nightlife scenes. Here are a couple of recommendations…

The Cornerstone Bar and Grill is located in the heart of downtown Roanoke just a couple of blocks from the Hotel Roanoke.  The Cornerstone has become a huge fan favorite for the Warhawk faithful. The popular establishment bends over backwards to make Warhawk fans feel welcome The address for the Cornerstone Bar and Grill is:  24 Campbell Avenue, SW, Roanoke, VA.

Awful Arthurs Seafood Company is also located in downtown Roanoke. The popular restaurant has become a "must-stop" for Warhawks over the years. Great seafood! Not fancy, but great atmosphere. The address for Awful Arthurs Seafood Company is: 108 Campbell Avenue Southeast, Roanoke, VA

Warhawks "Pound the Rock" on the Road to Salem

Tied at 14 vs. Linfield on Saturday, UW-Whitewater went into pound the rock mode faced with a fourth quarter drive 75 yards from the south end zone at foggy Perkins Stadium.

Dennis Moore and Jordan Ratliffe carried the sledge hammer.

Ratliffe rushed for 22 yards and caught an 11 yard pass for a critical 1st down on what turned out to be the game-winning drive.

But is was Dennis Moore who sealed the deal with a 33 yard dash to the south end zone with five minutes left in the 4th quarter.

Moore and Ratliffe  both went over 100 yards in the win. Moore's 112 yards on 19 carries giving the junior from Elgin, IL 1,033 yards on the season. It marks the 11th straight year the Warhawks have featured a 1000 yard rusher.

D3football.com is "bible" for D3 football fans

I admit I'm a "wild and crazy" NCAA III football fan.  One of the primary reasons is due to the efforts of Pat Coleman and his D3football.com Website. I've been clicking onto the site since 2002. I like to call D3football.com the "bible" for Division 3 football fans.

One of my favorite parts of D3football.com is the Monday morning "Around The Nation" Podcast. Pat and Keith McMillen spend an hour each week during the football season dissecting the past weekend's D3 games.

On this week's Podcast, Pat and Keith look back on Saturday's UWW-Linfield and Mount Union-Wesley D3 semifinal games and a look ahead to Stagg Bowl XLII.

For UW-Whitewater football fans, making the mid-December trip to southwest Virginia to watch the Warhawks in the Amos Alonzo Stagg Bowl has become "old hat."  Again this year it will be the Hawks taking on rival Mount Union for an incredible ninth time in the last 10 years,

Friday night's game will be telecast on ESPN U, Gary Douglas and Arnie Peck will have the radio call on KOOL 106.5 is your "your radio home for Warhawk for 50+ years.
